Business Manager was Facebook\u2019s way of trying to make it easier to manage our social media management obligations at once. Unfortunately, there have been many pitfalls over the years.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>What are Facebook Business Manager&#8217;s issues?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even though it would be amazing to have a free tool that can meet all of these needs, that\u2019s not the case yet. At some point, it\u2019s much easier to pay for a tool that you know will be reliable. Therefore, we\u2019ve decided to add a\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lp.sotrender.com\/facebook-moderation-in-sotrender\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>community management<\/b><\/a>\u00a0feature<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0to our tool. We\u2019ll explain what pain points of Facebook\u2019s Business Manager inspired us to produce our own version of the Facebook comments and messages management tool.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Non-differentiated notifications<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Managing the messages and comments your business receives means that you have to stay on top of which user said what. This is more difficult when you aren\u2019t getting specific updates about each individual user.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you open your inbox in Business Manager, you\u2019ll receive notifications that say, \u201cPerson A and Person B commented on your post.\u201d <\/span><b>It doesn\u2019t specify in the notification which post you should be paying attention to. <\/b>You need to open up the whole post to see the context of the conversation.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s what that looks like using Facebook<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-39125 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image3.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"607\" height=\"67\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image4.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-39127 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image4.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"596\" height=\"185\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image4.png 647w, https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image4-475x148.png 475w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 596px) 100vw, 596px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image7-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-39113 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image7-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"546\" height=\"499\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image7-1.png 640w, https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image7-1-475x434.png 475w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 546px) 100vw, 546px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Quick things to point out<\/strong>: Facebook misaligned the order of the comments, noted 2 engagements when there were 3 comments. As you can imagine, this would make it much harder to check post metrics when there are hundreds of comments.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Solution<\/strong>:<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The good news is that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/2019\/11\/introducing-moderation-sotrender\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\"><b>Sotrender\u2019s community management tool<\/b><\/a>\u00a0<b>allows you to differentiate each user\u2019s notifications<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The comments are organized in an efficient way for you to keep up with<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">h new notifications and keep the context in mind. Every notification \u201ctile\u201d on the left is a new notification, and new tiles are stacked on top (if the same user commented several times). Actually, Sotrender is <\/span><b>the only tool in its category that organizes their comments into Gmail-style threads<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The design is useful because you can keep track of the changes in the conversation. You\u2019ll be able to categorize your customers according to their previous comments and adjust your response to them. Additionally, on the right-hand side, you\u2019ll see the full post preview with the user\u2019s comments nested.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Email notifications<\/h3>\n<p>Once you log off of Facebook, you won&#8217;t know what&#8217;s being said on your Page unless you have email or push notifications on. The downside of having some notifications active is that you&#8217;ll be notified about two separate activities at the same time.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/facebook-email-notifications.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-40005\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/facebook-email-notifications-950x335.png\" alt=\"Facebook fan page notifications by email and sms\" width=\"655\" height=\"231\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/facebook-email-notifications-950x335.png 950w, https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/facebook-email-notifications-475x167.png 475w, https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/facebook-email-notifications-768x270.png 768w, https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/facebook-email-notifications.png 1130w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 655px) 100vw, 655px\" \/><\/a>There is an option to receive email notifications, but there are a couple of problems with this option:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Facebook groups &#8220;likes&#8221; and &#8220;comments&#8221; as activity on a profile, but doesn&#8217;t differentiate them in an email. This means you might be getting regular emails only about people liking your posts.<\/li>\n<li>You won&#8217;t know whether there are negative comments that you need to manage urgently.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Solution<\/strong>: You will receive emails from us whenever there is something noteworthy happening on your Page. Here is an example of an email that you may receive about activity:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/sotrender-email-notifications.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-40013 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/sotrender-email-notifications.png\" alt=\"Email notification about Facebook comments from Sotrender\" width=\"652\" height=\"574\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/sotrender-email-notifications.png 706w, https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/sotrender-email-notifications-475x418.png 475w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 652px) 100vw, 652px\" \/><\/a>By bringing the number of negative comments to your attention, you&#8217;ll be able to tell whether there is a PR crisis that you should address immediately.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>All the rest is history<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are different reasons why a comment might have been deleted on a post. Perhaps the user themselves removed it, or a Page moderator decided that it was too inappropriate to keep it up. <\/span><b>Whatever the reason, the deleted comment is gone for good<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What happens when a user believes their comment was deleted unfairly?<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> You won\u2019t be able to tell which moderator deleted it, nor what the content of the comment was to justify the moderator\u2019s decision. This makes it difficult to hold Page moderators accountable or explain the incident to the user. This is a general flaw on Facebook, but it can be resolved fairly easily.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Solution:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From the moment you activate moderation in Sotrender, <\/span><b>all of the comments will be stored in the app<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. If you have multiple moderators, you can also see which moderator deleted the comment. For one, this provides transparency and quality assurance. On the other hand, it also allows other moderators to learn which comments have been deleted and why for future reference. Third, if a user has a history of having their comments deleted, it will be easier to separate the genuine customers from the trolls.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image5-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-39109 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image5-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"602\" height=\"193\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image5-1.png 636w, https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image5-1-475x152.png 475w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 602px) 100vw, 602px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Facebook user engagement analytics<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your marketing strategy\u2019s effectiveness depends on data-driven decision-making. It\u2019s important that you know what content your audience responds to and what they\u2019d like to see more of. Checking this in your Facebook Insights is possible, but you can\u2019t get the full picture. If you click on the \u201cPosts\u201d tab in Insights, you\u2019ll see all of the posts in one area. Unfortunately, you won\u2019t be able to organize them as descending or ascending number of activities or likes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image10.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-39119 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image10-950x286.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"615\" height=\"185\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image10-950x286.png 950w, https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image10-475x143.png 475w, https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image10-768x232.png 768w, https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image10.png 1025w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 615px) 100vw, 615px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As you can see, the image thumbnails are also quite small. This makes it difficult to see what was on the specific post, unless you click on the thumbnail and open the entire post. Unfortunately, you\u2019ll notice that the stats of the post are incorrect at times. This is because Facebook also counts the reaction changes (if you pressed like, then unliked the post or changed it to a heart). You might be misled by the statistics on the post, so it\u2019s important that you double-check.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Solution:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s possible to check your top-performing posts in Sotrender. By clicking on the \u201cContent\u201d tab, you\u2019ll be able to look at which posts had the most likes or interactions. Depending on your needs, you can sort the posts in ascending or descending order by a chosen variable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image9-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-39117 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image9-1-950x319.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"739\" height=\"248\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image9-1-950x319.png 950w, https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image9-1-475x160.png 475w, https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image9-1-768x258.png 768w, https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image9-1-1600x540.png 1600w, https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image9-1.png 1606w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 739px) 100vw, 739px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When it comes to counting reactions, Sotrender also counts unique activities. Unique users appear as a single user\u2019s behavior, whereas the sum of behaviors reflects all changes. If one user changed their reaction, it would still appear as a single fan interacting with the content. That means you won\u2019t be confused by the discrepancy between each activity and the number of changes for each reaction.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Facebook comments analytics<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is potentially the biggest pitfall for Facebook. When you have several people managing your business, you need to establish what level of responsiveness should be a required standard among the moderators. This is a necessary part of the process if you want to know whether your marketing and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/2019\/11\/tips-social-customer-service-facebook\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">social customer care strategies<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have a positive impact.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unfortunately, <\/span><b>in Facebook Business Manager<\/b> <b>you\u2019d have to check your comment analytics manually<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. You\u2019d have to count how many conversations and comments each moderator answered, and that takes up too much time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You\u2019d also want to know what your customers think of your brand, and one of the ways to do that is by checking the sentiment of most interactions on the page (positive, neutral, or negative). Again, without an external tool, you would have to evaluate the sentiment of the comments manually.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Solution:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you drop us a line, <\/span><b>we can prepare a specialized analytics report for your profile<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Our report will give you information about, for example:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the sentiment of users\u2019 comments (positive, neutral, negative)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">what time the users were primarily active<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">how many comments and messages were responded to in a given period of time\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the general response rate for your page and response rate achieved by each moderator<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image1-2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-39121 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image1-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"607\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image1-2.png 766w, https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image1-2-475x274.png 475w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 607px) 100vw, 607px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Regular Facebook blackouts and malfunctions<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><b>At some point, several businesses couldn\u2019t publish their content through Facebook Business Manager.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Publishing errors kept appearing without much of an explanation as to how to resolve them. Although this primarily affected posting statuses, there were also situations where the users couldn\u2019t leave comments. This has often led to disturbed posting schedules and unexpected changes in brands\u2019 content calendars.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oftentimes, social managers have to upload time-sensitive posts such as discounts by a certain date. Lack of social media promotion means that the whole sales strategy and marketers\u2019 efforts might go down the drain. Unfortunately, there aren\u2019t many readily-available solutions besides waiting for Business Manager to start working again.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/2017\/07\/brands-online-reputation-matters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\"><b>Business reputation matters<\/b><\/a><b>, and it is based on reviews and feedback from the customers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. If you can\u2019t respond to your customers, it makes it harder to help them and engage with them. This is particularly a setback for Business Manager.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">November is a big shopping month every year for the countries that have Black Friday deals. So you can imagine the frustration that occurred when social media managers couldn\u2019t access all the features they need to run their business\u2019 Facebook Page. <\/span><b>In 2018, Facebook Ads Manager stopped working right before Black Friday<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and people couldn\u2019t access their ad campaigns or reports. Marketers and social media managers depend on these services functioning. <\/span><b>The outcome can be really detrimental to the campaign.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What\u2019s more, users have reported coming across errors that were unspecified, so they didn\u2019t know what was wrong. At best, they were notified that \u201cAn error occurred while processing this request. Please try again later.\u201d At worst, they didn\u2019t receive the error notification at all when they tried to publish a post, answer to a comment or launch an ad. Some users suspected that the reason might be reaching the maximum number of Business Manager accounts linked to their personal profile.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Solution:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this situation, users can expect fewer bugs in Sotrender. Provided that the user has the appropriate role to manage the Facebook Page (moderator, editor, or admin), the user shouldn\u2019t have issues posting comments.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Switching users is a hassle<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It should be relatively straightforward for you to remove your main account from Facebook Business Manager. Unfortunately, it\u2019s not. There have been situations where users couldn\u2019t access Pages or ad accounts. Even after users integrated their ad account with their Business Manager, they get blocked out of claiming or accessing Pages because of \u201cunusual activity on their account\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Solution:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Changing moderators in Sotrender is fairly simple. <\/span><b>You can directly add or remove users in the app as long as you are the account admin<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Depending on your subscription, the number of users you can add will vary.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image8-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-39115 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image8-1-950x285.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"192\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image8-1-950x285.png 950w, https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image8-1-475x143.png 475w, https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image8-1-768x231.png 768w, https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/image8-1.png 1245w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If one of your moderators no longer works for your company, you can remove them as a moderator. Their old responses will appear as \u201cReplied by removed user\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Help is hard to reach on Facebook<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It can be difficult to get help directly from Facebook\u2019s staff. Usually, they will discuss the problem over chat or via e-mail, which can be time-consuming. Otherwise, their guides don\u2019t go over problems that you might run into. Instead, their help center generally provides you with very fundamental how-tos and not much else.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Solution:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sotrender\u2019s app is fairly easy to use, and we offer additional help. The app has built-in tooltips that should explain what the graph and metrics mean.
