They can also help in getting more attention from users. The popularity of specific hashtags reflects interests of followers. Because every profile has its own group of unique followers, there is no universal hashtag that everyone could use and win. There are various strategies and principles that can be applied to maximize the effects of using hashtags. To inspire you, we looked through several cases of using brands\u2019 own and trending hashtags. Check what we discovered.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/hash1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-14909\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/hash1.jpg\" alt=\"hash1\" width=\"400\" height=\"210\" \/><\/a><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Follow trends with trending hashtags<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Taking part in trending events makes your brand look more social and connected to other Twitter users. Nifty slotting into trends is also the easy way of getting popularity and reach. Brands are doing well when getting social by sharing emotions with followers. It is easier when big things happen, such as important global or local events. For example, Listerine Global was getting advantage by using hashtag <b>#worldcup.<\/b> Its whole campaign was based on the WorldCup theme.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Also Snickers got into the World Cup trend. Tweets tagged <b>#worldcup <\/b>were doing extremely well during the whole event. But watch out! Adding <b>#usavger<\/b>, a little bit less catchy, universal hashtag, worsened Snickers\u2019 results. On the other hand, hashtag<b> #ger<\/b> turned out to be useful for Listerine. As told before that there is no perfect hashtag that could engage everyone and our data confirm it. Not all Twitter brand profiles suceed in engaging followers in World Cup topics.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For example Lufthansa USA\u2019s <b>#worldcup<\/b> tweets got on average less users\u2019 activities than others. Maybe it can seem a little bit odd that something works and something similar doesn\u2019t, and for your close competition it is good, while for you it\u2019s not. Indeed, determining it in advance would be a hard nut to crack, but for sure the best you can do is to try and watch what is good just for you.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/listerine-worldcup.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-14891\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/listerine-worldcup.png\" alt=\"Hashtags used by Listerine Global\" width=\"474\" height=\"964\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Feeling the season\u2019s vibe is the great way to catch the attention of followers. We found that sunny #summer tweet was very beneficial for Olay Skin Care. Now, in the autumn, PayPal got almost 4 times more activities than average with tweets containing #backtoschool tag.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_14893\" style=\"width: 593px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/paypal-backtoschool.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14893\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14893\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/paypal-backtoschool.png\" alt=\"Hashtags used by PayPal\" width=\"583\" height=\"778\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/paypal-backtoschool.png 583w, https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/paypal-backtoschool-475x634.png 475w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 583px) 100vw, 583px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-14893\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hashtags used by PayPal<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In August we experienced another phenomenon on the Internet &#8211; ALS \u201cIce Bucket Challenge\u201d action. Not only celebrities, but also brands took part in fun and beneficent trend. Hashtag #IceBucketChallenge helped in scoring few times more users\u2019 actions even for smaller and non-English language profiles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/student-copa.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-14895\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/student-copa-1024x909.png\" alt=\"student-copa\" width=\"625\" height=\"554\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Create your own unique hashtags<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Apart from participating in trending events via tweets, it\u2019s worth creating your own hashtags. You may try using for example these referring to your brand or product. Such hashtags are frequently used by mobile phones manufacturers, like <a title=\"See Twitter profile\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HTCUSA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HTC USA<\/a>. We found that tweets with #htcadvantage tags were more popular than others. On the other hand, more specific hashtag #HTCOneM8 was also a good choice for the brand.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_14897\" style=\"width: 604px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/HTC-htconem8.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14897\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14897\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/HTC-htconem8.png\" alt=\"Hashtags used by HTC\" width=\"594\" height=\"892\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/HTC-htconem8.png 594w, https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/HTC-htconem8-475x713.png 475w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 594px) 100vw, 594px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-14897\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hashtags used by HTC<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">When talking about mobile phone brands, we also took a look at LG USA Mobile. It turned out that its hashtag<b> #lgg3<\/b>, referring to a new LG G3 smartphone model, was also extremely successful. The Indonesian LG got more than twice the number of activities than usual with <b>#lgg3<\/b>. Also Nokia has its own good hashtag. Tweets containing \u00a0<b>#teamlumia <\/b>had twice more activities than other Nokia\u2019s tweets.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Next to hashtags containing brand\u2019s names, we noticed some created for specific campaigns. Sharing emotions can be part of such campaigns. American Express credit card used it in a nice style when promoting the brand by hashtag <b>#EveryDayMoments<\/b>. Here is what you definitely shloud have in mind while thinking about your own hashtags:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><b>Keep your communication consistent.<\/b> Think about \u201cthe bigger picture\u201d of your brand. Have a wide vision of your brand communication, not only on Twitter or other social media, but in all communication channels.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><b>Use only relevant hashtags.<\/b> Keep in mind the purpose of each tweet. Use only hashtags that match the topic and try not to use more than three at a time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><b>Don\u2019t spam.<\/b> Choose hashtags carefully and don\u2019t spam people with your tweets when they are not about the topic they want to read.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><b>Know what hashtags your competitors use. <\/b>Control what topics are trending in your niche and check if they will turn out to be beneficial for you.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><b>Make the right form <\/b>of your own hashtags. They should be <b>short, direct, easy to read and understand. <\/b>Use: <b>uppercase letters<\/b> to make your hashtag readable when containing more than one word. Watch out to not string too many words. Don\u2019t use: <b>spaces, punctuation marks<\/b> and other special characters.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><b>Discover the rules <\/b>applying to your profile and mantain personal approach. You cannot expect you will always succeed. It is natural that some tweets \u00a0won\u2019t be so successful as others. You \u00a0have to<strong> check how your fans react to various types of tweets containing different hashtags.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\"
