It\u2019s easy &#8211; it simply has a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sponsored<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> label above the image or video.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-8939\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/sponsored-instagram-post-1.png\" alt=\"Sponsored Instagram post \" width=\"451\" height=\"708\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Why are sponsored Instagram posts so popular these days?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the last few years, we could observe more and more ads on Instagram. There are two main reasons for that.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The number of people that are using Instagram is constantly growing: both the number of creators (brands, influencers, etc) as well as people that are just consuming content on the platform. This is why it\u2019s much harder than it used to be to have satisfying organic results. Creators simply have more \u201ccompetitors\u201d than they did a few years ago. They now have to invest in paid ads to reach more users and to expand their reach and audience.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instagram is constantly developing and adding new features. This is all done to keep current users attached to the platform, attract new ones, and to remain one of the biggest social media platforms. Instagram ads are one of the most important income for the company, that is why it\u2019s obvious that Instagram is encouraging users to create more ads.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><strong>Do I have to see sponsored posts?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Well, in general, it\u2019s not possible to turn off ads on your account. What you can only do is teach the algorithm of what types of ads are less interesting for you by informing <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/help.instagram.com\/615366948510230\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">which ones you don\u2019t like<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. How can you do it?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Next to each Instagram sponsored post you\u2019ll see three dots. There are only two conditions:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">having an Instagram business profile (you can easily have one by switching from the personal profile &#8211; we\u2019ve explained what is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/2018\/09\/business-instagram-sotrender\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a business profile and how to do the switch<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">),\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">having a budget that you\u2019re ready to spend on your promotion. \ud83d\ude09\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Setting an Instagram ad is pretty easy as well. You can do it directly from Instagram, by using <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/business\/learn\/lessons\/using-the-promote-feature-for-ads-overview\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Promote<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> button<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which you will see under each post on your profile. The second option is by using Facebook Ads Manager. If you\u2019re a more experienced marketer or Instagram creator, you should use the second one as it has a few more options.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For your promotion you can use a post that you\u2019ve already published on your Instagram profile. Then, a promotion will boost its performance: reach, impressions, and engagement. You can set up this type of ad directly from Instagram by using the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Promote<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> button or from the Facebook Ads Manager panel.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is also a second option, though. For your promotion, you don\u2019t have to use a post from your profile. Your sponsored content will be then visible only to a selected group of users in their feed, and it won\u2019t be available for any user from your profile. You\u2019re creating an ad because, most probably, you want users to take some action: react to your post, comment, share, visit your profile or a website. It should be immediately clear for your target audience what you\u2019re expecting from them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also, if you want people to visit your website, you shouldn\u2019t just redirect them to the homepage. Based on the goal of your ad, define precisely if these users should be redirected to your latest blog post, or for example, rather to a special landing page presenting your key product.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Is branded content the same thing as sponsored content?\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We\u2019d like to draw your attention to one more type of content you may see on Instagram.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You might have come across posts from influencers that you follow which were marked with the label \u201cPaid partnership with\u2026\u201d (as shown below).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-8945\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/paid-partnership-with-1.png\" alt=\"paid partnership for sponsored post\" width=\"410\" height=\"697\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s good to know, though, that officially it\u2019s called <\/span><b>branded content<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, even though many users colloquially call it sponsored content as well. It\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.socialmediaexaminer.com\/how-to-tag-and-manage-instagram-branded-content\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a branded content<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> because it\u2019s a cooperation between a brand and an influencer (or a celebrity).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What is the difference between a sponsored content and a branded content, if both of these content types are actually ads?<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Instagram sponsored content is usually organic content that the Instagram creator wants to promote for money to reach more users<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Then they set up an ad (from Instagram directly or via Facebook Ads Manager) and pay Instagram for this promotion. They also have full control over which posts to boost and for how much.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Branded content is usually an organic post in which an influencer presents and promotes a product or service of a brand that he or she cooperates with<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. In this case, the <\/span><b>influencer was paid for showing the product, but Instagram was not<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. From the user\u2019s perspective, this is also an ad. Of course, branded content can also be boosted later on.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Are sponsored Instagram posts worth it?\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After reading our text, and seeing more and more posts labelled as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sponsored<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> you may now wonder if it\u2019s actually worth investing your marketing budget in such a promotion.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Well, yes and no. If you\u2019d just like to increase your Instagram reach or engagement, achieving this by using ads should be quite easy. However, if you have more high-level goals, for example, getting more followers, more traffic on your website or blog, or even increasing sales, you\u2019ll usually need more money, experience and knowledge to have satisfying results.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Anyway, to evaluate the effectiveness of sponsored Instagram posts, you&#8217;ll need to have a reliable set of data.
