It\u2019s more and more difficult to have satisfying results on these platforms without using a paid promotion. Of course, there are many ways in which you can boost your performance, like using relevant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/2020\/04\/how-to-use-hashtags-on-instagram\/\">hashtags<\/a> or starting cross-promotion with other Instagram creators. However, these organic methods of growing your account may not always be enough.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ads are obviously another way of reaching a wider audience and growing your profile. Today we\u2019ll guide you through easy ways to create (and later on analyze, as well) Instagram ads.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>How to create Instagram ads directly from Instagram<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first way in which you can create an ad for Instagram is directly through the Instagram app.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can do it in 2 ways:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">when you create a post (next to tagging other people and adding location),\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">after your post is published, by using the \u201cPromote\u201d button under each post.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/create-instagram-ads.png\" alt=\"create instagram ads\" class=\"wp-image-8579\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instagram will guide you step-by-step and will tell you what, and how, you can change (remember that some settings will be set automatically unless you change them).<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here is what the process of creating your ad looks like in this case:&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image size-full wp-image-8539\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/create-ads-on-Instagram-.png\" alt=\"create instagram ads \" class=\"wp-image-8539\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Creating Instagram promotion on Instagram<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As we\u2019ve mentioned, you can change all these settings manually, and as you can see it\u2019s pretty easy to create your first ad.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Good to know<br><\/strong><\/span>Once you&#8217;ve created your ads and they go live (which may take a while, as they have to be revised by Facebook), they will be labeled as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/resources\/knowledge-base\/ads\/sponsored-instagram-posts\/\"><em>sponsored<\/em><\/a>. Every Instagram post can be boosted, promoted or sponsored, and the funny thing is all that means exactly the same thing. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image wp-image-8665\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/sponsored-instagram-post.png\" alt=\"Sponsored Instagram post\" class=\"wp-image-8665\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Sponsored Instagram post<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What you should know, though, is that by using this option you can choose only 2 objectives:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Getting more profile\/ website views<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reaching people near your address\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We&#8217;re presenting this method of setting up your Instagram ads because it&#8217;s the &#8216;classic\u2019 and obvious way of doing it. However, the second method, which we\u2019ll present below, is a much better choice when it comes to creating Instagram ads.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You might have heard that it\u2019s not recommended to use the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Promote<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> button on Instagram (or the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Boost Post <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">button on Facebook). We couldn\u2019t agree more with this recommendation! You should know that Instagram is owned by Facebook, so these two platforms are treated as one ecosystem, and right now its name is Meta.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before you start, you should obviously connect your Facebook Page with your Instagram profile.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can either add your Instagram account to your Business Manager (here is a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/business\/help\/368080763391044\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">guide<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on how to do that) or connect your Instagram profile in the Page settings.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To help you understand the process of creating your ad, you should know that such a campaign consists of:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Choosing an objective &#8211; <\/span><b>Campaign level<\/b><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Setting the time frame, budget, target group, and placements &#8211; <\/span><b>Ad set level\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adding visual assets &#8211; <\/span><b>Ad level\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Remember<\/strong><\/span><br><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you create your Instagram promotion you can have a few Ad sets, and a few Ads. However, one campaign can have only one objective, which has to be chosen at the very beginning.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once you start creating your Instagram ad, you will immediately notice that<\/span><b> you have many more objectives to choose from<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. When using Instagram you only had 2, but you have 11 options with Ads Manager.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image size-full wp-image-8541\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/facebook-ads-manager-campaign-objectives-.png\" alt=\"instagram ads objectives \" class=\"wp-image-8541\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Possible <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/business\/help\/1438417719786914\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">objectives<\/a> to choose from when creating an Instagram ad in Facebook Ads Manager<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once you choose an objective, you can move to defining the time frame of your campaign, budget, and people you want to reach.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image size-full wp-image-8543\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/lifetime-budget-instagram-ads-.png\" alt=\"lifetime budget instagram ads\" class=\"wp-image-8543\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Scheduling your Instagram ads<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Worth noting<\/span><br><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can set <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.hellosocial.com.au\/blog\/facebook-ads-daily-vs-lifetime-budget\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a lifetime budget or a daily budget<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. When you set the daily budget you have more control over your ads.<br><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When it comes to the time frame of your campaign, though, you have to choose the start date, but you can leave the end date empty. Your campaign will be paused when your whole budget will be spent.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Defining your target audience is one of the most important elements of the whole campaign. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are thousands of interests (which may vary between countries) that you can choose from when deciding what groups of people you\u2019d like to reach.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example, these are:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hobbies and interests,<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Job titles,<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Demographic data (e.g. upcoming birthdays or anniversaries),\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Behaviour (e.g traveling patterns).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image size-full wp-image-8545\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/audience-instagram-ads.png\" alt=\"target audience instagram ads\" class=\"wp-image-8545\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Choosing a target audience for Instagram ads<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can also import your own audience, for example, your current customers. To do so, you\u2019ll need a CSV file with your customers\u2019 email addresses, which you\u2019ll need to import into Facebook. You can learn more about custom audiences, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/business\/help\/744354708981227?id=2469097953376494\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. If you have a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/resources\/knowledge-base\/what-is-facebook-pixel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Facebook Pixel<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> implemented on your website, you can also retarget people that visited your blog or ecommerce shop.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Right after selecting your audience comes the time you\u2019ve been waiting for the most &#8211; creating your Instagram ad.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By default, Facebook will recommend you choose all the placements available. But you just want to create an ad for Instagram.&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What you have to do is <\/span><b>change the placements from automatic to manual and choose Instagram <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(as shown below).<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/placements-in-facebook-ads-manager-.png\" alt=\"placements in facebook ads manager \" class=\"wp-image-8547\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Then you can specify in which placements on Instagram you want your ad to be displayed. You have 3 options to choose from:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instagram feed,<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instagram Explore Page,\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instagram Stories.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image size-full wp-image-8549\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/placements-for-instagram-ads.png\" alt=\"placements instagram ads\" class=\"wp-image-8549\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Choosing placements for Instagram ads<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Remember<\/span><\/strong><br><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019d like to choose all these 3 placements, you\u2019ll have to prepare your visual assets in 2 different formats (one square for feed and explore and one rectangle for Stories). That also means that you\u2019ll have to have 2 different ad sets (your target audience and other settings can remain the same) but you\u2019ll need to create one ad set just for Instagram Story ads.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The last step, called \u2018Ads\u2019 is where you can upload your photo, video or graphic.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here, you can either choose one of your existing posts or create a new one by uploading your visual asset, a copy, and a link.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Remember<\/strong><\/span><br><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you add a new visual (photo\/video) that will be your ad\u2019s key visual, this \u201cpost\u201d won\u2019t be visible on your profile. It\u2019s called a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/resources\/knowledge-base\/what-are-facebook-dark-posts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">dark post<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which only selected users will see in their feed (or Stories, depending on the placement you choose).&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image size-full wp-image-8551\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/instagram-ad-set-up.png\" alt=\"instagram ad set up\" class=\"wp-image-8551\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Setting up Instagram ads<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And it\u2019s done! Now you just have to wait for the review process to end, and your ad will be scheduled or running, just as you planned.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let\u2019s sum up why Facebook Ads Manager is usually a better option when creating your Instagram ad than doing it directly from Instagram.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li><b>You have 9 more objectives to choose from <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">when creating your campaign (not only getting more profile\/ website views or reaching people near you).<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>You can be more precise when it comes to selecting your target audience.<\/b><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>It\u2019s easier to monitor and analyze ads<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; you can <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/resources\/knowledge-base\/instagram\/can-view-instagram-insights-desktop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">access your data on a desktop<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, analyze them in a table in a much more detailed way and for any time period, but also export all your metrics (as an XLS file) once the campaign is finished.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>You can create an Instagram Story ad<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which you can\u2019t set from Instagram.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>You can always edit your ad when it\u2019s running<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; from changing the time period, budget, broadening (or narrowing) the target audience, even up to changing the copy of the ad or visuals you\u2019ve used.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Analyze how your Instagram ad performed&nbsp;<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You\u2019ve done your job, so now it\u2019s time to analyze how your campaign performed. And let&#8217;s make it clear from the beginning: analyzing your ads is a necessity.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As you most probably can guess, as you can set ads both from Instagram and Facebook Ads Manager, you can monitor your ads performance from these two places as well.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you promoted a post that was previously published on your profile, you can analyze its performance by using the \u201cView Insights\u201d button under each post. You\u2019ll see there some basic metrics presenting the performance of this post from the moment it was published.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/promotion-insights.png\" alt=\"promotion insights instagram\" class=\"wp-image-8555\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As we\u2019ve mentioned above, setting up an ad via Ads Manager gives you the opportunity to analyze its performance in a much more convenient and detailed way. If you\u2019ve set it via Instagram, you won\u2019t be able to analyze it in Facebook Ads Manager &#8211; that\u2019s quite obvious.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the other hand, if you\u2019ve used Ads Manager to create your Instagram ad, you can then also use it to monitor how it performed. Once you open Ads Manager, you\u2019ll see a list of all the campaigns you\u2019ve ever created. Usually, the ones that are active, or are the newest, will appear on top of the list (but not always).&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image size-large wp-image-8553\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/analyzing-ad-campaigns-in-fb-ads-manager--1024x208.png\" alt=\"Analyzing Instagram ads in Facebook Ads Manager\" class=\"wp-image-8553\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Analyzing Instagram ad campaigns in Facebook Ads Manager<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Facebook offers dozens of different metrics that can be analyzed. Don\u2019t get overwhelmed by them &#8211; you won\u2019t be able to analyze all of them for each campaign, and you don\u2019t even have to. Remember also that some of the metrics are available only for specific campaigns or ad types (for example there are many video-focused metrics, which you\u2019ll be able to analyze only if one of your visuals is a video).<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Remember<\/strong><\/span><br><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If a few days after switching your campaign on, you\u2019re not happy with the first results, you can always implement necessary edits. In Ads Manager you\u2019ll see all the metrics broken down day by day, so it\u2019s much easier to draw conclusions.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>External social media analytics tools<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;ve just started using Ads Manager and you don&#8217;t have much experience with setting and analyzing Instagram ads, you should find external social media analytical apps helpful.
