This makes it impossible to create a universal guide on how to always have interesting content, a steady flow of fans, and be influential. However, it is worthwhile to know some basic things about Facebook &#8211; especially when it comes to <\/span><b>Edgerank<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2><strong>What is the Facebook Algorithm?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Edgerank is the name of <\/span><b>Facebook\u2019s algorithm<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It is responsible for the way all posts on Facebook are displayed, and consists of three components: <\/span><b>Affinity, Weight, and Time Decay.<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1203 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Facebook-algorithm-1-1024x500.png\" alt=\"What is the Facebook Algorithm\" width=\"1024\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><b>Affinity<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Affinity is a ratio that describes your <\/span><b>relationship with the brand<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that publishes content. This means that when you like something published by a fanpage for the first time, their new posts won\u2019t instantly show up in your news feed. However, <\/span><b>when we like the posts of said fanpage several times, It\u2019s more likely to be in the feed<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Facebook also enables you to choose how posts from specific fanpages appear in your feed. To do this, you have to do the following:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Go to the profile of a fanpage you like.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There will be a button that says \u201c<\/span><b>Liked<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d with a thumbs up beside it. Click on it.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under the &#8220;In the news feed&#8221; section, you can choose between <\/span><b>default and see first<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This will make <\/span><b>your posts appear at the top of their feed<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It is good to inform your fans about this option from time to time &#8211; If they select this option, you can be sure that they will see your content.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Weight<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The second component is the Weight \u2013 the way in which Facebook\u2019s algorithm measures <\/span><b>how valuable your type of content or activity is<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Basically, this means that a film uploaded on Facebook will be valued differently than, for example, a post shared by someone else. Facebook measures it in the following way:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b> Native Photo \/ Video.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Native Facebook videos are <\/span><b>weighed better<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> than any other video, from YouTube or Vimeo.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Links<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Links are influenced by the quality of the source. If the source has more links and visitors, it will be weighted higher.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>External Video<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (YouTube, Vimeo). Due to the fact that Facebook rewards uploading videos through Facebook directly, clips from YouTube have much lower reach.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Text Posts<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. They have the largest organic reach, but potentially the smallest interactivity.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Post interactions are also considered when determining the weight. They are counted as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><b>Sharing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Generates additional reach, according to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sotrender.com\/#features\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sotrender<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and it\u2019s Interactivity Index is scored for 16 points.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Commenting<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. 4 points Interactivity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Liking<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. 1 point Interactivity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Clicking. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">both, going from the link to the site to read the entire article, and opening images. This interaction is not scored, but it affects the reach and is considered by the algorithm.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Time Decay<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The last component is Time Decay &#8211; it describes two important details: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How long it\u2019s been since our <\/span><b>last interaction <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with the site. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>period of time since the post was published<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In other words &#8211; The older the post, the lower it\u2019s Edgerank. There is also evidence to suggest that the amount you interact with Facebook influence time decay. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Conclusion<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Edgerank is complicated and hard to take advantage of. Only Facebook\u2019s developers know how it truly works, and everybody else is just trying to guess.
